About This Place

Nestled in the heart of Salt Lake City, Finn's Cafe offers a delightful Scandinavian and European-inspired breakfast experience that is both unique and comforting. This charming restaurant, located at 1624 S 1100 E, captures the essence of Nordic hospitality combined with American breakfast classics, making it a must-visit for locals and travelers alike.

Finn’s Cafe truly shines with its eclectic menu, where traditional Scandinavian dishes meet beloved breakfast staples. Signature offerings such as the Chicken and Waffles showcase a perfect balance of crispy, golden fried chicken paired with fluffy, lightly sweet waffles — a comforting plate that invites you to savor every bite. Meanwhile, the Eggs Benedict with Salmon is a standout, celebrated by guests as possibly the best smoked salmon Benedict in the area, featuring perfectly poached eggs draped in rich, velvety hollandaise atop toasted English muffins and smoky salmon. The Pyttipanna, a classic Nordic hash with diced beef, potatoes, carrots, and onions topped with poached eggs, brings hearty, rustic flavors that warm the soul. For those with a sweet tooth, the Marzipan Cake offers a tender, subtly sweet finish that reflects the café’s Scandinavian roots.

The restaurant atmosphere complements its menu beautifully. Inside, the space boasts a quaint, almost retro ambiance filled with natural light and thoughtful Scandinavian design touches that make it feel cozy yet lively. In warmer months, the outdoor patio blooms into a shaded, inviting retreat perfect for leisurely brunches amid the buzz of Salt Lake City. Guests often comment on the balance of attentive service and relaxed vibe, where servers are known to be kind and timely, enhancing a meal that already pleases both the palate and the eye.

Menu variety is another highlight: from hearty omelets like the Chorizo Omelette with creamy feta and fresh avocado to lighter options such as the Egg White Omelette filled with pesto and baby spinach, Finn's caters thoughtfully to diverse preferences. Meanwhile, regional favorites like the Weinerschnitzel and Eggs offer a European touch not often found in typical breakfast spots, allowing diners to explore new flavors without leaving the comfort of an inviting café setting.

Early morning visitors love the satisfying aroma of sourdough baking — a nod to Finn's place in the local culinary scene as one of the pioneers in introducing authentic sourdough bread to Salt Lake City. This passion for quality ingredients extends through every dish. Whether you’re indulging in the rich Sourdough Pancakes or savoring the hearty Steak and Eggs, each plate feels crafted with care and respect for both tradition and taste.

Real patrons consistently highlight the memorable dining experience at Finn’s. One guest described the café as “a cute Scandinavian spot with beautiful indoor and outdoor ambiance,” praising the smoked salmon Benedict as “probably the best I’ve ever had.” Another shared delight over the Eggs Benedict Royal, noting the perfectly poached eggs and rich hollandaise as the meal’s highlight. While some dishes like the Salt Lake City omelet were noted to be a bit drier, the overall consensus is an inviting menu that offers both familiar and novel flavors alongside friendly service and a charming atmosphere.

If you're seeking a breakfast or brunch destination that artfully blends Scandinavian charm with hearty, soulful dishes, Finn's Cafe is a treasure. It’s a place where the senses are delighted—from the first bite of savory eggs and fresh salmon to the warm, inviting space that welcomes you like an old friend. Plan your visit soon to discover why this Salt Lake City gem has quickly become a beloved local favorite.

Such a cute Scandinavian spot with a beautiful indoor and outdoor ambience — the space itself is unique and charming. We stopped in for brunch and will definitely be back to try lunch. My partner said the waffles were good but nothing out of the ordinary, while I absolutely loved the smoked salmon Benedict — probably the best I’ve ever had with smoked salmon!

During our visit, we ordered the Eggs Benedict Royal, the Salt Lake City omelet, and a grilled cheese sandwich for my child. The Eggs Benedict Royal was absolutely delicious — perfectly poached eggs, rich hollandaise, and a flavorful combination of ingredients made it the highlight of the meal. The Salt Lake City omelet was decent, though a bit on the dry side, so it didn’t stand out as much. The grilled cheese was a hit with my kid, and it came with a side of fresh fruit, which was a nice touch and made the meal feel a bit healthier. The service was excellent throughout our visit. The staff was friendly, attentive, and welcoming, which added a lot to the overall experience. We chose to sit outside, and the outdoor seating area was wonderful. There was plenty of shade from the surrounding trees, keeping things cool and comfortable even in the midday sun. It created a relaxed and pleasant atmosphere that made the meal even more enjoyable. Parking could be a bit limited depending on the time of day, but we noticed there’s some off-street parking available, which helps alleviate the issue. Overall, it was a great spot for a casual meal with family. Tasty food, great service, and a lovely outdoor dining experience make this place worth a visit. I’d definitely return to try more from their menu.

In the wintertime the indoor seating is the only used space. We arrived around 11am and had about a 20 minute wait for a table. The indoor seating was more quaint, but I’ve heard that they use the outdoor seating in the summer and there’s a lot more people around then. The food took about 20 minutes to arrive. I ordered the Crab Cake Benedict. I had requested the eggs to be medium poached, but they came out to different consistencies, one being perfect and the other being runny (which I don’t love runny yolk). The crab cake was a good concoction of flavors. It had some sort of vegetable mixture in it that was flavorful & savory. The hashbrowns were mediocre and a bit soggy. I find crispy hashbrowns to be more generally preferred. I also tried the Benedict Royale and Chicken Norwegian Waffle from others in my party. I liked the salmon, but one in our party did not. It seemed like it was likely frozen salmon cooked to order, which I was happy with. The Chicken Waffle was a nice mix of sweet & savory. There was a fruity jam and the chicken wasn’t overly seasoned, so it was a gentle pairing. The price was satisfactory for the dishes and I would come again. After tax and tip, it was $105 for 4 people.

Amazing experience! Servers were kind and took care of us in a timely manner. My friend got a Norwegian waffle with a deep fried chicken (so yummy) and I got the Pyttipanna with the French bread. Fantastic taste!! After sitting for a while the wife of the owner came and took our plates. She said that her husband was one of the first to sell sourdough in Salt Lake! I wish I would’ve gotten some! She was so lovely and had amazing energy. Would go again! Good prices for their food too!!

Finn’s is a charming breakfast spot that we couldn’t believe wasn’t busier on a Saturday morning! No wait for a table, and the service was excellent. The patio is lovely and shaded, and the inside of the diner has a fun. almost retro vibe. We got the french toast and the waffles and both were yummy. Food overall is a bit overpriced, but generally on par with other breakfast places in SLC, and Finn’s is unique and charming enough to make it well worth a stop.
